Customer has a 3 year old American Standard gas furnace, she said that her furnace and thermostat were fried and not working. She had an electrician come by and inspect it, but he wasn't able to do anything. Upon investigation, I found that the thermostat has failed due to a power surge that hit the home. I also found that the fuse on the control board was blown and the contactor at the condenser was fried along with wiring. I replaced thermostat, contactor, and fuse/wiring and tested all modes of operation. All components are within manufacturers specifications and system fully operational. Recommend annual maintenance and power surge protector for either home or equipment.
As touched on by their name, heat pumps function by transferring heat energy indoors during the winter and outdoors from your home during the summer. They're often attached to air conditioning units, using the surrounding air to transfer energy. However, geothermal heat pumps and water source heat pumps are also available. The cost to repair a heat pump, again, depends on the specific problem. Replacing a faulty thermostat may cost up to $300 including labor, while a worn or damaged defrost control board can set you back up to $600. If I could give them 10 stars I would. Don is extremely knowledgeable but more importantly honest. PSE had done a free diagnosis and told me I would need a new induction motor for around $850 or possibly a new furnace. PSE doesn't do the repairs so I found Affordable furnace on yelp. Don showed me where the noise was coming from and that we didn't need the other repair. He performed some routine maintenance and enlightened me on much better furnace filters. He said we will probably need a new furnace in a couple years but given the fact we've lived here 18 years and it was here before we got here I think we're doing pretty good. When it is time for a new furnace there's only one company we will be calling. Thanks Affordable Furnace!

Of the various contractors and HVAC service companies, why should you choose AQS for air conditioning and furnace repair? Our company is a family-owned and operated business that has been in business since 1996. It goes without saying that we are extremely experienced in the installation and repair of heating and cooling units. We are proud of our A+ rating from the BBB, and we have received numerous Super Service Awards from Angie's List, both in recognition of the quality services we provide.
Over the past twenty years, we have used a number of different heating and cooling companies, none impressed us to use them more than once or twice. The service provided by A-TEMP was so outstanding; they will be our heating and cooling service provider for LIFE! Exceptional all around! It is nice to know why our home has three temperature zones and what we could do to improve it; plus the costs. Also, to understand the importance of regular maintenance-especially as it relates to carbon monoxide emissions. We appreciate the forewarning that our new system would be noisier due to the increased volume in our return system. We feel so blessed to know we do not have carbon monoxide emissions now and the furnace is the right size for our home. We feel like we won a million dollars with our new system!
To keep your furnace in good working order it’s important to have it regularly cleaned. The national average furnace cleaning cost ranges from $60 to $80, though prices can vary greatly based on where you live in the country and what your furnace maintenance includes. An HVAC company may have different rates for different levels of furnace maintenance. For example, one company may offer general furnace maintenance for $79 and advanced maintenance for $138. Another company may offer a 38-point maintenance check for $89 and a 64-point maintenance check for $178. According to Energy.gov, a standard furnace cleaning and maintenance visit can include:
Next check and clean the furnace’s flame sensor. The video below shows you how—note that this guy fixes it in about 5 minutes. We would probably use a little bit of emory paper, but he cleans the sensor with a 5-dollar bill. Another video further down the page under the discussion of “If your furnace keeps shutting off after about 5 minutes” shows the same project with a different brand of furnace.

I had a minor crisis at my home with a backed up sewer drain in the basement and me just home from a freak accident where I broke both arms! Spencer narrowed down the problem and called his coworker who had the equipment to snake my drain and stayed to clean up until the issue was resolved. He was courteous and careful to make sure my carpet didn't get marked up and cleaned up well. I am so grateful for him being willing to go the extra mile to help me out!
Whether you have an electric or gas furnace, you shouldn’t have to suffer when your heater is not working. At Sears Home Services, our technicians fix many of the top furnace manufacturers. The issues you may face with your furnace can vary depending on the type of heating system. If you own an electric model and it isn’t working, some of the potential causes include:
Heat pumps that wring heat from outdoor air (and reverse the process in summer to act as an air conditioner) are inexpensive to install as an alternative to a cooling-only air-conditioning system. That makes them the preferred way to heat in the South and Southwest, where winters are typically short and mild. Heat pumps that wring heat from the ground are much more expensive to install, but they are suitable for cold climates because they can maintain their operating efficiency. Other inexpensive electric-heat options include strip heaters, which are installed in the ductwork of central air conditioning, and permanently installed baseboard units in each room. But before you consider any type of electric central heating in colder regions, keep in mind that electricity rates are much higher than those for natural gas and are likely to remain that way for the foreseeable future. You can get rate information for various fuels from local utilities and suppliers.
Your furnace's flame sensor is essentially a safety mechanism. As a thin metallic rod in front of the flame inside the unit, it's sole purpose is to confirm that your gas valves only open when a flame actually exists to burn that gas. When the flame sensor stop working, on the other hand, gas leaks can occur. To repair your furnace's flame sensor, expect to spend between $80 and $250. Even a full replacement of this part typically does not go above that range.

The thermocouple is a copper rod that the pilot flame heats-up. When it gets hot enough, the thermocouple signals that there is enough heat to burn the gas fuel being released into the appliance—and so it allows the gas to be released to the burners. In some cases where the pilot light won’t stay lit, the thermocouple needs to be adjusted or replaced. This is generally a job for a professional.

Wife and I bought a fixer-upper last year. One of the issues it had was a lack of heating for the house. I called Affordable Furnace Repair and they sent Don out. He checked on the furnace and found one of the heating elements had gone bad. He fixed it quickly and we had a warm winter. Plus we got a box of filters for cheap from him, all around good service.
Walter was stupendous! He installed a new high-efficiency central air and furnace in my house. His master craftsmanship (artistry) and customer service are in a class of their own. From removing the old unit to all of the finishing touches, testing and review of operating the system, every detail was done in excess of what I could have imagine and I'm a Building Inspector. It was a very pleasant experience for me with only good surprises.
If your home is not heated using forced air, chances are a boiler will make sure you stay warm during cold nights. A hot water system delivers hot water through a network of pipes that run to every room in your house. The heating effect gets maximized through radiators. The most common issues with hot water heating tend to be not be major, but small problems that add up over time. Mineral deposits within the water tank, a pilot light malfunction, or an issue with a radiator itself can require professional repair. On average, you will pay between $183 and $582 for these problems. The exact amount will depend on the exact problem, as described in our boiler repair cost guide.
