This makes heat pumps a highly energy efficient solution. At Bob’s Heating & Air Conditioning, our Federal Way heat pump specialists often recommend heat pumps because they allow our customers to use a single system year–round. As a highly energy efficient device, your heat pump may also save you money in the long term. Let us take care of your heat pump needs in Federal Way, WA, whether that’s installation or repair.
Dirty furnace filters are one of the most common causes of a furnace failure. A dirty furnace filter can limit the airflow through your furnace and cause it to overheat. If you suspect a dirty air filter, change the filter, press the reset button (if your furnace has one) and see whether your furnace begins to emit heated air. Change your furnace filters regularly — pros recommend changing them once a month — to ensure that your furnace continues to work properly. Unaddressed, dirty furnace filters can cause extensive, and expensive, damage to your home’s heating system.

Air filtration systems work by trapping contaminant particles on a medium such as fiberglass. While your forced–air system already has one or more air filters, those are designed to protect the system components from particles, rather than remove them from your indoor air. We not only install air filtration systems in Federal Way; we also repair and maintain them as necessary.

As touched on by their name, heat pumps function by transferring heat energy indoors during the winter and outdoors from your home during the summer. They're often attached to air conditioning units, using the surrounding air to transfer energy. However, geothermal heat pumps and water source heat pumps are also available. The cost to repair a heat pump, again, depends on the specific problem. Replacing a faulty thermostat may cost up to $300 including labor, while a worn or damaged defrost control board can set you back up to $600. For more details on your potential repair costs using this heating source, visit our heat pump repair cost guide.

Lennox is another leading manufacturer and marketer of gas central furnaces. Lennox central furnaces are available in single and multistage configurations, with some models capable of an AFUE rating of more than 90 percent. Lennox markets units that meet Energy Star requirements and makes others that it claims offer quiet operation. Heat pumps that wring heat from outdoor air (and reverse the process in summer to act as an air conditioner) are inexpensive to install as an alternative to a cooling-only air-conditioning system. That makes them the preferred way to heat in the South and Southwest, where winters are typically short and mild. Heat pumps that wring heat from the ground are much more expensive to install, but they are suitable for cold climates because they can maintain their operating efficiency. Other inexpensive electric-heat options include strip heaters, which are installed in the ductwork of central air conditioning, and permanently installed baseboard units in each room. But before you consider any type of electric central heating in colder regions, keep in mind that electricity rates are much higher than those for natural gas and are likely to remain that way for the foreseeable future. You can get rate information for various fuels from local utilities and suppliers.

As your air conditioner operates, it is going to suffer some general wear and tear. There is really no way in which to avoid this. However, wear and tear does not have to result in serious problems with your air conditioning system. Just make sure that you schedule professional air conditioning maintenance in Seattle, WA in order to keep your system in great working condition.

We live in a recently completed townhouse that was built with double-wall construction. That construction method was touted by the builder as what would keep sound from penetrating between the units. But we can hear the next door neighbors' TV and stereo, and sometimes voices and even snoring, through the wall. While sometimes it's the volume, mostly it's the bass sounds coming through the wall. They say they don't hear us, but we keep our bass turned down. They crank up the bass, and they are not going to change that. They also are not going to do anything construction-wise to help from their side. What is the best way for us to try to block the low frequency/bass sounds from penetrating the existing wall into our side?

For starters, once a year, vacuum out the area around the furnace’s blower. If possible, also slide out the fan unit, clean each fan blade with a toothbrush, and then vacuum with a brush attachment on a vacuum cleaner. While you’re at it, look for oil ports on the motor, normally located near the motor shaft. If the motor has these, apply two to three drops of non-detergent motor oil into each port (you may have to remove a cover plate to do this). Though most contemporary motors don’t require lubrication, do lubricate motors with oil ports once a year. For more about maintenance, see Maintenance Checklist for Central Heating Systems.
