When you change the temperature on your thermostat, or the temperature in your home drops, a signal lets the furnace's igniter know that it's time to turn on. Igniters exist in both hot water boilers and forced air furnaces, replacing pilot lights as the switch your unit needs to kick on. Naturally, this is a core part in making sure it works reliably. When it stops working, your unit will not longer know when to actually heat your home. Fortunately, furnace igniter repair doesn't tend to be a major budget problem, and costs less than $300 on average.
Mechanical air filters trap pollutants by filtering them out of the air as it passes through. Electronic air cleaners pull air in, give the pollutants in that air a static charge, and trap those pollutants on an oppositely charged surface. By working with a qualified professional you can rest assured that you have the right air filtration system in Seattle, WA.
When pollutants build up within your ductwork, it is possible for those ducts to distribute pollutants throughout your entire home. These pollutants can also accumulate on vital components of your HVAC equipment. Professional duct cleaning in Seattle, WA is a great way to ensure that your system operates effectively as well as to protect the quality of your air.

If you pull out your home’s air filter, hold it up to a light. If you can’t see light coming through it, it’s most likely been a while since your last heating service, and likely time to get a new one. If it’s a simple disposable air filter, just replace it with a like-size new one. It’s also a good idea to write down the date you installed the new filter, so you know how old it is next time it needs to be replaced. Check the filter packaging to see how long the new air filter is supposed to be used.

Whether you are looking for gas furnace service or repair, quality installation of a furnace, heat pump or air conditioner, mini split ductless heat pumps, endless hot water from tankless water heaters, better air quality in your home or just a filter change or duct cleaning, Greenwood Heating is your best choice of Seattle heating contractors and cooling specialists.
An electric furnace provides warmth by moving air over and through a series of coils. Ductwork and vents then distribute that air to the individual rooms in your home. Repair costs will depend on both the brand and the exact nature of the problem, but tend to be lower than some of the options above. That's because the units are small, and issues tend to be contained within the heating elements themselves. Expect to spend less than $300 on your electric furnace repair, depending on the exact problem.

I was able to get an appointment easily and they arrived promptly.  They detected the problem and repaired it quickly.  A few days later, I encountered another problem and again, I was able to get an appointment easily and they arrived promptly.  They recommended some easy fixes and now everything is working well again.  I can recommend them without qualification.  The guys that came out to my house were great.
Finally, don't underestimate the thermostat as a potential reason why your furnace is not working. Everything on the heating unit itself may function perfectly, but your home still will not heat right if the console you use to set the temperature doesn't communicate your input. A faulty thermostat can either be due to the wall unit itself, or the wiring that connects it to your furnace. Average thermostat repair costs are between $108 and $282, including labor. Replacement costs, of course, depend on the thermostat you choose. Visit our thermostat repair cost guide to learn more about this type of issue.
A pinging or popping sound coming from the duct work can come from thermal expansion—the ductwork expanding and contracting as it heats and cools.  Or, air blowing past a loose flap of metal can make the sound. Track along the duct runs, listening for the sound. If you locate it, make a small dent in the sheet metal to provide a more rigid surface that’s less likely to move as it heats and cools.
If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. Air filtration systems work by trapping contaminant particles on a medium such as fiberglass. While your forced–air system already has one or more air filters, those are designed to protect the system components from particles, rather than remove them from your indoor air. We not only install air filtration systems in Federal Way; we also repair and maintain them as necessary.

Inspect your furnace thermostat by first making sure that it’s turned on. Also, ensure that the thermostat switch is turned to “heat” and not “cool”. If your furnace will still not start with the thermostat on, try adjusting the temperature settings to a few degrees higher. Inspect any visible wires for breaks or splits, and make sure your thermostat batteries are not dead. Do not touch any open wires; contact a professional.

For starters, once a year, vacuum out the area around the furnace’s blower. If possible, also slide out the fan unit, clean each fan blade with a toothbrush, and then vacuum with a brush attachment on a vacuum cleaner. While you’re at it, look for oil ports on the motor, normally located near the motor shaft. If the motor has these, apply two to three drops of non-detergent motor oil into each port (you may have to remove a cover plate to do this). Though most contemporary motors don’t require lubrication, do lubricate motors with oil ports once a year. For more about maintenance, see Maintenance Checklist for Central Heating Systems.
