Your furnace's flame sensor is essentially a safety mechanism. As a thin metallic rod in front of the flame inside the unit, it's sole purpose is to confirm that your gas valves only open when a flame actually exists to burn that gas. When the flame sensor stop working, on the other hand, gas leaks can occur. To repair your furnace's flame sensor, expect to spend between $80 and $250. Even a full replacement of this part typically does not go above that range.

Customer has a 3 year old American Standard gas furnace, she said that her furnace and thermostat were fried and not working. She had an electrician come by and inspect it, but he wasn't able to do anything. Upon investigation, I found that the thermostat has failed due to a power surge that hit the home. I also found that the fuse on the control board was blown and the contactor at the condenser was fried along with wiring. I replaced thermostat, contactor, and fuse/wiring and tested all modes of operation. All components are within manufacturers specifications and system fully operational. Recommend annual maintenance and power surge protector for either home or equipment.
Walter was stupendous! He installed a new high-efficiency central air and furnace in my house. His master craftsmanship (artistry) and customer service are in a class of their own. From removing the old unit to all of the finishing touches, testing and review of operating the system, every detail was done in excess of what I could have imagine and I'm a Building Inspector. It was a very pleasant experience for me with only good surprises.

If your furnace has a pilot light, look for the flame. Check your owner’s manual or the instructions posted inside the furnace cabinet for step-by-step lighting instructions. Usually this involves first turning the gas valve to Off and waiting a couple of minutes. Then you turn it to Pilot. Next, press and hold it down while you light the flame. Last, wait a minute or so, release it, and then turn it to On.
Fitting a furnace with an electrostatic filter, which uses an electrical charge to help trap particles, or a high-efficiency particulate-arresting (HEPA) filter can reduce the amount of dust blown through the heating system. That might help people with asthma or other chronic lung diseases, but there's little evidence that other people need such filtration.

• Furnace is making more noise because it’s turning on and off more frequently. It may need repair, may not have been sized properly to fit the needs of your house, or may not have the airflow available that it needs from the ducts. The ducts are most often the culprit. Sometimes adding a cold air return can solve this. Ensure your vents are all open. If you are closing off vents in your house this can contribute to the issue.
Professional air duct cleaning in Federal Way, WA is important because it ensures that your ductwork functions as it is supposed to. When dust and other debris accumulate inside your ducts, they can hinder airflow, which can raise your energy consumption and cause the cost of cooling to be much higher than should be the case. Let us keep your ducts in good working order.

Furnaces and thermostats are not mix-and-match appliances. Using the wrong type of thermostat with a furnace will cause operating problems and can be dangerous. Although thermostats look similar, they are designed very differently. There are numerous types of heating systems and thermostat systems and they need to be coordinated for safe and proper operation. There are three types of thermostat systems used today: millivoltage, low voltage, and line voltage.
